Background
and
Qualifications
Shannon has spent more than ten years working in the field of
psychology in a variety of settings including child and family therapy,
Department of Families, Queensland Health and in community and general
practice clinics across Queensland.

Her qualifications include a Master of Clinical Psychology (six years
minimum full time at
University) and accreditation as a specialist Clinical Psychologist
under the
Medicare arrangement. Shannon is a full member of the
Australian
Psychological
Society and a member of the International Association for Contextual
Behavioural Science.
Shannon's private psychology practice is located in Brisbane city at
Suite 39,
Level 1, Ballow Chambers, 121
Wickham Terrace, Spring Hill, Queensland (just about Central Station).
Previously my private practice was located at Strathpine.
Shannon specialises in the treatment of depression and anxiety and
finds
that
most patients benefit significantly from psychological treatment,
leading them to experience happier and more fulfilled lives.
She
also has a particular interest in working with other
psychologist's/psychologist's in training and health professionals who
may be facing difficulties in their work or personal lives or who want
to complete their own therapy to enrich their own practice.
Therapeutic
Approach
Shannon is very relationship focused. The therapeutic relationship is
quite
unique and it is very important to her that clients feel understood,
validated and comfortable in sessions. Shannon views
each of
my
clients
as unique individuals and tailors her approach to each person.
Psychological
treatment is primarily conversational based and involves the
psychologist and patient working together in partnership.
Shannon's
therapeutic work is
strongly
influenced by a type of psychological
therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (pronounced
“ACT”) which is an approach that has been found to
be
highly
effective for many people. It is particularly helpful for more chronic
or longer term
psychological conditions. ACT is a relatively newer form of Cognitive
Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which integrates mindfulness components.
Shannon is
also trained in, and practices solution focused therapy, schema therapy
and psychodynamic psychology.
Often people feel quite nervous about seeing a Psychologist for the
first time. For most people however, the experience is reassuring and
can lead enhanced emotional wellbeing with long term effects.
