Referrals
and Fees
Referral can by made by your GP as part of your mental health care
plan. Please ask the receptionist for an extended consultation when
booking with your GP to access a psychology referral as the paperwork
can be a little more time intensive. When your GP refers you as part of
a Mental Health Care Plan, this entitles you to receive six psychology
sessions with Medicare rebate with a further six sessions (maximum 12
per year) optional after review. This is applicable for a
range
of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders,
and adjustment disorders. Shannon works closely with your GP
who
continues to
manage the medical aspect of your care, and provides them with feedback
so that optimal outcomes can occur for each patient. More Medicare
information can be found at the following link:
http://www.psychology.org.au/medicare/fact_sheet/
Please contact Shannon or speak with your GP for further information.
Patients are also welcome to self-refer however would not be eligible
for Medicare rebate in this case. Some health funds also cover
psychology services however the rebate is usually much less than the
Medicare rebate.
Sessions last for 50 minutes. The initial session is a good opportunity
for you to help Shannon to gain an in-depth understanding about your
situation and for her to give you an idea about treatment information,
options and timeframe. It is also important to determine whether
Shannon is
the most appropriate person to assist you and to ensure that there is a
good match therapeutically. It is very important that you feel
comfortable and that your sessions will be a very positive and valuable
experience for you.
Depending on the issue, patients are seen weekly initially and then
fortnightly with occasional visits as needed depending on the issue and
severity. Some problems respond well to just a few sessions while other
more chronic, life long problems are likely to require more sessions
and treatment over a longer period of time.
The session fee is $150 per session and most of this fee is covered by
Medicare for GP referred patients (rebate of approximately $117.85)
leaving an out of pocket cost of $32.15. Payment is due on the
day
of consultation. Payment for psychology sessions can be made via cash,
credit card or EFTPOS. Please bring along your Medicare card
as
the rebate is able to be put back into your savings/cheque account via
Medicare Easyclaim. Please visit the link below for
further information if needed:
http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/public/claims/easyclaim.jsp
Please note that there is a charge for failing to attend a scheduled
appointment without giving a minimum 48 hours notice of need to cancel
or reschedule (except in the case of emergency or serious illness).
This charge is $75 and is not reimbursed by Medicare. This is to ensure
that minimal waiting times are experienced by patients on a waiting
list who may require urgent treatment. Thank you for your understanding.
